Michael Duncan, a Louisiana native with deep roots in Chicago, currently lives and creates in Dallas.
Through his extensive work across sculpture and acrylics and oil on canvas, Michael seeks to suspend and continually recast the narrative of a moment in time. His early compositions in sculpture continue to inform his works on canvas, giving rise to an evolving, synergistic relationship between the two art forms.
Michael’s work is a genre he calls “soundism.” An exploration into synesthesia, Michael draws upon the emotion of music and mimics the movement of music through his brushwork to create visual connections to well-known musical works and inspire new understandings.
Another primary focus of Michael’s work address social and cultural themes within the current environment. The purposeful recurrence of the male form celebrates a long-sought self-acceptance of Michael’s own personal choices. The neutral palette offers a visual quietness that frees the viewer to focus on the narrative in its simplest form.
